Withing 2 weeks, Non-growing, ammonium-starved cells show morphological changes. The structures hypothesized to be carboxysome-like bodies are no longer discernable. However, other electron-dense bodies have appeared (boxed). The peripheral membranes are still largely intact (bounded by arrowheads), but packing of these has loosened as indicated by visible spaces between membrane layers, and undulation of the exterior. |
